If your child is planning on attending independent/private school, by now you may be well aware that after your
child works through the demands of the SSAT/ISEE, he or she must immediately turn his or her attention from
the standardized test to the school applications. In general, each school requires at least one essay response, but
other schools require as many as seven "extensive" responses.
Sometimes this process can be overwhelming to both parents and students, and it can also put a significant stress
on the parent-child relationship -- so parents turn to me.
I will draw on my experiences as a published author of books, speeches, and articles to help your child:
1. read through the questions and discuss the meaning of each;
2. narrow down the choices to the most viable options;
3. discuss the importance of the topic selection;
4. appreciate the significance of the quality of the writing; and
5. outline the responses.
At that point, your child will be expected to write the essays on his or her own. When your child has finished
well-executed drafts, we will meet again, and I will offer your child feedback about how to improve the quality
of the essays. It is imperative, however, that the essays be the work of your child and not the work of an
overinvolved adult.
I would be happy to discuss with you the specifics of the application process. Please feel free to contact me at
