SAT & ACT PREPARATION
I have been helping students of all ability levels to work toward mastery of the SAT & ACT for over 25
years.  My approach is a comprehensive one and covers all qualitative and quantitative elements of the
standardized test.

My 30 years in education, which have always included the teaching of mathematics, provide a rock-solid
base for helping students with the math portion of the exam. My content mastery is only enhanced by my
ability to explain the material from numerous and varied perspectives, until the child feels absolutely
comfortable with the content.

From the verbal perspective, I draw on my writing skills and the years I have spent as a published author to
help students dramatically improve their vocabulary and reading skills, for the standardized portion of the
exam, and their writing, for the essay portion of the test.  In addition to requiring that students memorize
weekly word lists (in order to remain in the course), I also introduce the importance of Greek and Latin
roots.  I have always been intrigued by words, and my interest only grew when I realized the connection
between English and our linguistic foundations.  Roots work, when administered properly, allows students to
increase their vocabulary exponentially, as they are able to dissect words that otherwise would have been
unrecognizable.

Finally, strategic approaches to standardized tests are perhaps as important as content mastery.  As a result,
each session includes guidance about matters such as:  when to guess; when to skip; how to narrow down
options; how to tackle a lengthy reading passage; how to use the answers to get the answer, etc.

The following elements distinguish my program from other programs:

1.  the breadth of test-taking strategies;
2.  my ability to tailor the strategies to each child's needs;
3.  my ability to execute all curricular elements of the test;
4.  the demanding yet flexible teacher-student interaction; and
5.  the non-negotiable standards for staying in the course.

I would be happy to discuss with you the specifics of my standardized test preparation process.  Please feel
